Book Review: The Fever - Meg Abbott

Hey guys, Alexia here :). Today I'm going to be doing the review of 'The Fever' by Meg Abbott. I hope  you like it. My goodreads and social medias are under the review.

I gave it a 3 stars on Goodreads.

The follows this girl, Deenie and her family, her dad Tom, and her older brother Eli. After a mysterious illness strikes Deenie's best friend from childhood, Lise, and she is left in a comatose state, the town goes wild. Slowly more and more girls are being effected and no one knows how - is it the polluted river? The vaccine's? Boys? No one knows.

I really enjoyed this book, I think it has a really unique plot line and I did not expect the ending, although in hindsight it was a bit more obvious than I originally thought. The writing story was a bit off putting, as it was not clear who's point of view it was - whether the father, the brother or Deenie's, I would have liked the style more if it was not weirdly set out.

In other books, the story would have been following why people were getting ill, how they were, but in 'The Fever' it follows the reaction of the illness - the hysteria from the girls, the boys wondering whether it was them, through sexual intercourse or actions and being blamed by parents, and the parents who have a full spectrum of theories, from political theories and to the polluted river and many more. I loved how the book showed the hysteria and worry of the characters instead of trying to find the cause of it through the whole book; it makes it very realistic, because if this happened in real life (It is based on a true story but more on that later), people wouldn't be looking for the answer they would be panicking - not everyone can be a book character.

I loved the characters whose point of view we see, especially the brother. I wish we could have had the characters be more in depth and personal instead of just skimming against the surface which I felt like the author, Meg Abbott, was doing through the whole book. The book is full of teenage angst, Deenie who has started feeling and seeing things sexually, and Eli, who has had his fair share, but has stopped and started worrying over his little sister and what she may be doing and whether she will get ill.

Tom and Eli are watching Deenie like a time bomb, to see whether she will get ill while she tries to fix things when three of her friends have the illness. I love the sense of family you get whilst reading the book and I wish I could've had more. I feel though that were somethings that were left unexplained, and I suppose that is supposed to be for 'mystery' but instead it has just bothered me.

This actually happened in a town called 'Le Roy' were girls in a school started getting ticks and no one knew how and 'The Fever' was based on what happened and while reading the article you can see the similarities to the book and what actually happened. If you are going to read the book I would not suggest reading the article first. The article is: http://www.nytimess.com/2012/03/11/magazine/teenage-girls-twitching-le-roy.html?pagewanted=all
It did take me a long time to get into it due to the writing style, but in the end I got there and I really enjoyed it.

I'm alive

Hey guys. So yes, I am here. I'm so sorry I haven't been posting, I have had so much work and I'm just about keeping up.

An update:

I didn't read the 3 books on the TBR, I couldn't get into the first one 'Twinmaker', even though I was halfway through it, and I couldn't read the second, 'Crashland' as that is the second in the series and I don't remember how the end  of 'Twinmaker' went. The third book, I wasn't that interested in and, I had to bring it back to the library so....

I did read 'The Fever' by Megan Abbott, I have 3 more chapters to go, but I love it so much, it is such a good plot line, and I can't wait to do a review on it.

I'm so excited, I'm going to YA Shot, and I'm going to see the authors and there are going to be other bookish people and I'm so happy :D

Thanks - Alexia

My To Be Read

Hey guys, Alexia here.

Usually I don't really have TBR's,  I just read randomly, but I have a lot of books taken from the library, so I have to organise my reading schedule so I don't go over. The book on the list I'm already reading, but it's  the first in the series and I don't remember it so I'm reading it again.

The first book is "Twinmaker" by Sean Williams, and it is a dystopian. The people in the book travel through D-mats, which can send you from London to Sydney (across the world basically) in a few seconds. The main character is called Clair. Clair's best friend Libby uses this virus thing called Improvement to make herself look pretty. Libby changes and goes against Clair, and Clair is left trying to fix everything. There are people called 'Stainer's' who are against D-mats, for accidents that happened to themselves or someone else, and some even see it as killing people. Clair realises that everything is not what it seems and has to struggle with the knowledge that everything she knew was a lie.

The second book is "Crashland" by Sean Williams, and it follows on to what happens in "Twinmaker"

The third book I have to read is "Human Universe" by Professor Brian Cox and Andrew Cohen. It's a book about philosophy and questions people ask to understand nature and themselves. It looks interesting, it is not a genre I read often, it has a lot of physics and chemistry and that kind of thing in it.

The fourth book I have is called "The Enchanted" by Rene Denfeld. It is narrated by a man in Death Row, who escapes by reading and re-imagining the world around him and making a magical world of what is around him. A investigator comes in, to try and save the people from death row. I think the synopsis is quite cool - making a world out of nothing while sitting in jail.

The fifth  and last book is called "The Fever" by Meg Cabot. It is a true story, which is quite scary, as it is about this area, where girls are forgetting who they are - they lose their identities. Apparantly this is a true story, which happened four or three years ago, in this town where girls just collapsed, and when they woke up they didn't know who they were. People this it may have been chemicals in the water when they were a fetus and the mother drank the water, and I think this is a really cool concept.

Also there is a thing called YA Shot in the end of October and I really want to go to it, if you live in London we could maybe meet up?, message me, on my:

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY FIFTEEN

Hey guys, Alexia here.

Day Fifteen - Sam or Caine
Mine changes though! The first three books, my favourite is Sam, but then it's Caine. I can't choose. Sam is my favourite because he's always tried his hardest, even if he just sees himself as a normal kid. Caine is my favourite, because he redeems himself, he knows what he did was wrong - all of it, and he could have chosen to save himself, but he didn't, and even when he was dead, he still helped the others with a letter, saying he basically did it all - even when he didn't, and saving Diana in the process. My favourite is Caine, there I said it.

 Who is your favourite?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY FOURTEEN

Hey guy, sorry for not uploading yesterday, I was usy working and then homework, so...

Day Fourteen - Favourite Quote
My favourite quote is in Fear, when Diana and Orc are talking about, how Orc was scared that Howard is in hell, and then Diana says:
"Yeah, well, you know what? If Howard's in hell, I guess we can all have a big get-together soon enough"
That's my favourite quote because I can just imagine all of the Fayz kids in hell, not freaking out just sitting in a circle maybe with a fire in the middle (or everywhere - it is hell), and talking, and then Sam appears there and all  the kids are shocked, and Caine would be like "I was not expecting that" and Diana hitting him on the head. The only difference to the Fayz would be the fact that PEnny and Drake have a special place for them where they burn eternally and the other Fayz kids can choose things to do  to them.

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY THIRTEEN

Hey guys, Alexia here :D

Day Thirteen  - Your least favourite pairing/ship
Everyone, everyone is going to hate me for this, but. Brianna and Dekka. *Raises arms to fend of the rocks*. Yes I know, how can I? Answer is, I don’t know. I don’t dislike them together, I just don’t feel anything for them. Lie. I do and I feel bad for Dekka, but they don’t make me happy and all squirmy inside with my love for them, like I do for Sam and Astrid, and Caine and Diana, and Edilio and Roger.

Book Review - Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

Hey guys! It is that time again, book review time. I finished this yesterday, and it was such a good book, so here is the review! Just something that may interest you, I went to pick up my laptop with one hand and felt my wrist nearly break. Yay :D.

I gave this book a 5 stars on Goodreads which is: 'Alexia Stylianou'
(If you’re looking at this and thinking it’s a lot and you are going to click off, I say: it’s really good and worth the read so read it)

The main character, Audrey, has social anxiety, and she hasn't left her house in months. When you first start reading the book, you immediately like her, well I did at least. We learn that something has happened to her in her school, that she was badly bullied, so badly that three students were expelled and Audrey went into hospital and then therapy and not leaving the house or taking her black sun glasses off. You never really find out what happened, but you know it’s bad from the start, and leaves you wondering what happened.

As well as herself, the book follows her family. The book itself starts with her mother threatening to throw her older brother Frank’s computer out of the window. I found this hilarious, but horrifying at the same time. Audrey goes on to say that her mother is a bit eccentric and that her mother follows the Daily Mail like the Bible, and that her mum thinks that computers are going to be the end of the world. Which is a shame because Frank is an avid gamer, playing the game ‘Land of Conquerors’, which is shortened to ‘LOC’. Her brother is the typical ‘teenage boy’, he loves gaming, he’s moody and messy, but you can tell he really loves Audrey and wants her to get better.

Whenever something goes wrong, or Frank or Audrey are in trouble, the mother always calls for the dad, who is not the ‘alpha’ male in the family, but has to constantly back up his wife, even when he doesn’t know what she going on about. Audrey has a little brother Felix, who she sees as innocent, and ***SPOILER*** he is the only one she (Audrey) shows her eyes too ***SPOILER***. I love Felix so much and if I had a little brother I’d want him to be like Felix.

The depiction of family is very realistic and I loved that. There was times when everyone was arguing, or if not arguing, they were angry with each other. Despite that, the family loved each other and just wanted the best for each other (even if it was for their own gain *cough* Frank *cough*). Some families are shown to never argue or disagree, and even if for some that is the case, most of the time it’s not, especially if there is more than 2/3 children – there will be arguing.

Linus. Ah, Linus. When Linus is first introduced, he is coming over to play ‘LOC’ with Frank. When Linus and Audrey first start talking (second encounter) it’s through notes and I find that so cute. Linus tries to be understanding, but there are times where he becomes frustrated with Audrey, because what is simple and easy for him, is difficult for her. I loved their relationship in the book, especially as Kinsella didn’t use Linus’ character to make Audrey better.

Reading the book, you can really tell that Kinsella did her research into social anxiety, because when I was reading, I didn’t flinch at anything as I have with other books I’ve read about a mental illness. Audrey went to her appointments with Dr Sarah, who she really liked, and shows what it’s really like to be in therapy (from what I’ve been through). In other books I’ve read, it’s always the boy helping the girl get better, making her ‘happy’, and I hated that, and I was really scared that was going to happen in this one, and I am so relieved that Linus was not used a character to make her anxiety go away – which realistically would not have happened. Instead he is there helping her – along with her family and Dr Sarah.

I really loved this book, it dealt with a heavy subject, but made it light hearted. The humour was brilliant – just like my humour and it was one of the best books I’ve read in a while.

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY TWELVE

Hey guys, it'sAlexia :D

Day Twelve - Your favourite pairing/ship
Hmm. Edilio and Roger I'm going to say, even though you don't see a lot of them, I am going to stick to them. I think they are so cute together, from what we were shown, and I'm upset we didn't get more of them. GO REDILIO!!

Who is your favourite pairing/ship?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY ELEVEN

Hey guys, Alexia here. Yeah I know, another no post. I apologise, my internet was out so no homework got done either so.

Day Eleven - Who would be your love interest in the Fayz
Hmm. I'm answering this from the time when I was there age, which was last year. I'd say Caine, because I imagine him as really good looking, and not like how the covers portray him. If not Caine, then Sam. Wait scrap that, I would like Quinn. Not from the get go obviously, but later on in books, I can see myself liking them.

Who would be your love interest?

30 Days GONE Challenge - DAY TEN

Hey guys, Alexia here. (YAY I'm uploading). Sixth Form has so much  work :o, but I will trod on.

Day Ten - If you had a power, what would it be
This is quite vague, am I able to choose one that already exist and it's what I want. or is it what I think I'll actually had? If it's the first, I don't think I'd have one. If it is the latter, then I want (long period of thinking) hmm maybe Diana's. Not to  be in her exact situation, but at the end of the day, her power isn't dangerous, and I think I would be for use but wouldn't be in danger all the time (again, saying if I wasn't in her situation). I also think that Toto's power is cool, can you imagine knowing whether you are being lied to? That can come to so much use, like not telling someone when you know they are lying then using it against them. Wow. I didn't expect that to lead there. I'd only like Toto's power if it didn't come with his back story though (being alone for 7 months)

What would your power be?

30 Day GONE Callenge - DAY NINE

Alexia here, and here is today's challenge :D

Day Nine - Who would be  your best friend in the Fayz? (Maximum Three)
I would love to say Dekka, because she is so cool and lets be honest, who doesn't want to be best friends with Dekka? But I see myself, if in different circumstances, me talking to Lana, as (in my opinion) I think we have a bit in common. This was quite difficult to answer really.

Who would be your best friend?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY EIGHT

Alexia here, and here is the one I was supposed to do yesterday (yes I know I suck).

Day Eight - Your least favourite male character
Why is this even a question? Drake obviously. I don't like Zil either.

How about you guys? Who is your least favourite.

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY SEVEN

Hey guys, it's Alexia. Well it has been a long time. Two days. I would've uploaded, but I have been really busy and school has started, but I am back :D

Day Seven - Team Human Crew, Team Sam or Team Caine?
Well, who would even be Team Human Crew? Seriously. For me, I would have to say Sam, because in my opinion, Caine did not really ever have a reason, and Sam was just trying to be a normal person. At the end of the series I feel as if it was more Team Sam and Caine, even though they didn't get on as well as they could've, they still wanted the same end goal.

What team are you on?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY SIX

Hey guys, it's Alexia here how are you all? I've just finished my book and I can't wait to review it for you guys :D.

Day Six - Least Favourite Book
To be honest, I don't really have a least favourite book, they've all kind of blurred into one (shame on me), so my answer to this question - I have no least favourite :D

What is your least favourite?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY FIVE

Hey guys, it's Alexia here. I'm reading a really good book at the moment called 'Crewel', and I can't wait to finish it and review it for you guys :D

Day Five - Lease Favourite Female Character
This is an easy one - Penny. I absolutely hate her, even thinking about her now makes me so frustrated. It's horrible to say this, but I never once felt sorry for her, she is just so horrible and she only ever thought of herself and she doesn't (or didn't) have on compassionate bone in her body, she moans so much to Diana about how Diana never helped her - but lets be serious for a moment, do you think Penny would have ever helped Diana if the situation was reversed? No she wouldn't. When she died, I have to say, I was relieved!

Who is your least favourite female character?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY FOUR

Hey guys, it's Alexia :D. Onwards with the challenge...

Day Four - Your Favourite Fight
None of the last ones, as some of the characters I like day (Brianna), and I would like to say the first few fights, but I would be lying as my memory is a bit rough from the first two books as I read them a few years ago. I would have to say Brianna chopping up Drake into little bits was a good moment, as my hatred for that boy has not lessened throughout the series, but has grown.

What's your favourite fight?

Tuesday, 1 September 2015

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY THREE

Hey guys, Alexia here :).

Day Three - Favourite Female Character
Hmm, this is pretty easy for me, I have to say Dekka. I love the friendship she has with Sam and I think she is a really strong and she is my queen. I think after all she has been through, throughout  the books and what her family did to her (I'm not going to ruin it for you), you would think that she wouldn't be as kind and helpful and be a bit more selfish, doing only what she wants.

Who is yours?

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY TWO

Hey guys, it's Alexia, sorry I forgot yesterday's so here it is today...

Day Two - Favourite Male Character
This is difficult I love somany of them - Sam, Caine, Edilio and Quinn - how do I choose? I love Sam because he has always saved the day and tries his hardest at everything. Caine I didn't like at the start but as the series progressed I grew fond of him and the ending killed me. Edilio was the best because even if he didn't have any powers he still saved the day and kept things running and he is so selfless and he is my bae. Quinn was so horrible at first, weak and scared, but as the series progressed he became stronger and saved the day in his own way and keeping things together when it all went dark.
I'm going to say Edilio is my favourite :D

30 Day GONE Challenge - DAY ONE

Hey guys, it's Alexia here :D

As I've finished the Gone Series I thought I would do the challenges over 30 days. Doing this won't affect how often I update.

Day One - Your Favourite Book
Hmm, I'm not sure whether to say the first book 'Gone', or the last book 'Light'. I think I'd  properly have to say 'Light', just because Michael Grant ended it so well, each of the characters each having their own little section and it was so good and I haad goose bumps reading it.

Michael Grant and Andrew Smith book event

Hey guys, Alexia here. How are you all?
I'm writing to you from Waterstones Piccalilly and I'm waiting for the event to start. I may or may not have come an hour and a half early... opps.

I'm really excited, my BZRK trilogy has come this morning, but I didn't bring it as I already bought with me the Gone series and The Marbury Lens by Andrew Smith (I ordered Passenger the second book in the Marbury Lens series but it hasn't come yet :( ), and I'm not going to bring over 10 books with me - plus the ones I'm going to buy (only two).

I'm a bit nervous, as it's only me and my mum and there are going to be a lot of others and I don't know how many books Michael Grant will actually sign..

I was so happy to see that Michael (or should I go by surname and say Grant?) Is going to come back to the UK in spring so if I don't have all the books signed I'll bring the unsigned books to that one.

Hey guys, it is a few days later and I thought the event was brilliant! Michael Grant was so nice and polite and it was so cool. Andrew Smith was awesome as well and I really related to him and his personality and I was very happy.

Me being me, left the first book of the Gone series, 'Gone', in the bag, so it remains unsigned.... oh well.

--

I'm so sorry for the lack of updating, but I thought I did post something, and had to delete it as thepost was too old.

Book-tube-athon was a flop, I thought it was only the 3rd to the 6th, but it was the whole week. The first day I read Scarlet, then started Lament. On the second day I was ill, then the 3rd day I was still recovering and on the 4th I thought 'What's the point?' and that was the end of that.

Harry Potter Tag - Harry Potter's birthday

Hey guys, today has been quite a busy day. One Direction have a new song out (yeah I'm a fan, calm down) and it's brilliant and Harry has another leaked song and I my work volunteering at a charity book shop. Today is also the birthday of JK Rowling and Harry Potter, so *SCREAMS* and I decided to do the tag and I hope you enjoy

1) Favourite Book

My favourite book is probably Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, because I love Remus and Sirius and I don't really know I just really love the book (as well as the others).

2) Least Favourite Book

I'd have to say Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix because it's so long and I was 8/9 when I read it and it's one of the first big books I'd read and it took me the whole summer to read (6 weeks). It's not  really even a least favourite just one I look at and I think 'jfc' at how big it is.

3) Favourite Film

My favourite film is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone . It was the first film I watched of the series and it was a film I watched a lot of times when I was younger and the copy we have is on video, and we've had it since it first came out and I have so many good memories with it.

4) Least Favourite Film

My least favourite film is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I saw this film years after it came out, because my mum didn't want me to see the part where Voldemort comes out of the cauldron because I was 6 when it came out, so the first time I watched it I was 12, but obviously I'd read it. Which looking back, I watched the other films, so why didn't I question Voldemort being back? Opps.

5) Favourite Quote

'We've all got both light, and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that's who we really are' - Sirius Black, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

6) Favourite Weasley

Um, Molly Weasley, I think she is such a strong character and loves her children uncondtionally. I love the twins (or twin) they are hilarious, and I wish we could of had more of  the eldest sibling, Bill.

7) Favourite Female Character

Hermoine Granger, I love her so much, through the books she goes through so much stick, because she is muggle-born and she over powers it and carries on trying her hardest and helping her friends and being one of the brightest witches of her age.

8) Favourite villain

I'm sure Sirius doesn't count, although he was a villain for the first three quarters of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, so I think my favourite villain is, Draco. Some people don't see him as the villain, and he isn't over all - Voldemort is, but in some ways he was, he was a bully, he made people feel bad about themselves, he was the school bully. He is my favourite because throughout the films you get to know Draco more and more and you can empathise with him for growing up in a pro-voldemort household, and he was never taught anything different. I'm not excusing anything he did, but I just couldn't ever hate him.

9) Favourite Male Character

My favourite male character is Sirius, I was going to say Harry but that is too cliche. Sirius is my favourite because he is so funny and caring, and even after spending 12 years in azkaban he still seems genuine and when he and Harry meet (after Harry finds out Sirius is innocent) is one of my favourite moment in the series.

10) Favourite Professor

My favourite professor is Remus. I love how kind he was to Harry, and I always imagine what Remus must've been thinking that his best friend's son is with him and how happy he must have been and so proud of Harry he was for coming this far and Remus is the best.

11) Would you rather A) Wash Snape's hair or B) Spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?

I would wash Snape's hair, because the thought of having Lockhart going on about himself would drive me to insanity, and it wouldn't be too bad for Snape's hair to be washed at least once.

12) Would you rather duel A) an elated Bellatrix or B) an angry Molly?

I would rather fight an elated Bellatrix, because have you seen an angry Molly in a fight, I'd rather not.

13) Would you rather travel to Hogwarts via a) Hogwarts Express or B) Flying car?

Hogwarts Express because I think it would be so cool, and the view would be amazing. I wouldn't be stressed either about having to drive and I wouldn't be getting in trouble and imagine riding the carriages as well.

14) Would you rather A) kiss Voldemort or B) give Umbridge a bubble bath?

Kissing Voldemort would be one of the nastiest things (I'd rather be kissed by a dementor, so that is saying something), so I'd give Umbridge a bubble bath.

15) Would you rather A) ride a Hippogriff or B) ride a firebolt?

Ride a Hippogriff! Is there even any competition? Riding a Hippogriff would be one of the most coolest experiences EVER! I loved the scene in  the movie when Harry rides Buckbeak for the first time, it is one of my favourite scenes in all of the movies.

16) Is there a character you felt differently about in the movies?

Probably Dumbledore, I didn't dislike him as much in the books, in the movies I thought he was a bit selfish and he just got on my nerves.

17) Is there a movie you prefer to the book?

Well, I already said this, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

18) Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?

Richard Harris, although he was only in two of the films, I love how kind he was to Harry and - weirdly - I love how soft his voice was.

19) Your top thing (person or event) that wasn't in the movies that you wanted there the most?

I really loved the elves, I think they were introduced in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and I just thought they were really cute and I was angry they were left out -  and that meant also less Dobby time.

20) If you could remake any of the Harry Potter movies which would it be?

I wouldn't remake any of them I didn't find any of them that bad - I loved them and they could be much worse, so I wouldn't remake any of them.

21) Which house was your first gut feeling you'd be a part of?

I thought I would have been a part of Hufflepuff.

22) Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?

I was sorted into Slytherin and I have no regrets.

23) Which class would be your favourite?

My favoruite class would be History of Magic, because it would be so cool to learn about how it started and how it was in different eras.

24) Which spell do you think would be the most useful to learn?

Accio - to find things. I lose things all the time but if I had this spell, I'd find things in no time.

25) Which character do you think you'd instantly become friends with?

I think Neville because we are both quite quiet, or - well  I'd like to - Hermoine.

26) If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?

I would own the invisibility cloak and then go around scaring people with it.

27) Is there any aspect of the books you'd want to change?

I'd like to change nothing, because then it wouldn't be the same. Ok, maybe one little thing - I don't like how Snape is glamourised in the end, okay it is sad what happened to him, but he was still a bully - he was Neville's worst fear, and Neville's parents were attacked so that says something.

28) Favourite Marauder?

I love Sirius, and I love imagining what he would've been like when he was at school. I like all of them, apart from Peter Pettigrew

29) If you could bring one character back to life which would it be?

As much as I want to say Sirius, I would bring Remus back to life for his son Teddy.

30) Hallows or Horcruxes?

Hallows, obviously, the horcruxes would be so painful.

Book Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Hey guys, so today I'm going to review Cinder, and it wasn't the original book I was going to review, but I finished reading it yesterday, and my mind is blown. There is spoilers so beware, I will say when the spoiler free section ends.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation.
Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future.

So, the book is a twist on Cinderella, and I was a bit wary of reading it, because I thought it would be too much like the fairy tale and unoriginal, I was completely wrong!
The writing was so good, while reading it, I was taken away from real life and sucked into the story. I connected so much with Cinder, and all the things that happened to her, it felt like it happened to me. I love the Prince, Kai, he is my baby and I'll protect him with my life. This is going to sound stupid, but I even loved the font, and I don't know how I'm going to read another book, Cinder has put up o many standards, and I really recommend reading it, when I first started it I was really uncomfortable, but then, somewhere past the first quarter I decided I'd rather live in the Lunar Chronicles universe even if it meant possibly catching the plague (oop too much?) Anyway, this is all I can say without spoilers so... *throws book in your face* READ THE BOOK

The book is set in the future, I don't how far into it, and Cinder is a cyborg. What is a cyborg you ask, it is someone who has been in an accident and needs a limb replaced, and to replace it they use wires and metal etc (probably the worse description but...) Like the fairy tale, Cinder has an evil stepmother and two sisters, Pearl and Peony, but plot twist, Peony and Cinder were friends. Unlike the fairy tale, the stepmother, Adri, was already married to the dad (stepfather) Garan, and Peony and Pearl were their kids, Garan had adopted Cinder when she was 11.
There is a disease going around, called Letumosis, and it is referred to as the Plague, and it has affected the whole Earth. Cinder's stepfather caught from Europe after adopting Cinder, and the stepmother had always blamed Cinder for his death.
The story is set in China, and there is an Emperor and Prince and I love Prince Kai so much and *dies*
There are people who live on the moon, called Lunar's, and there is one incredible b*tch Queen Levana and ugh so much hate.
I'm probably going on and you think I'm talking (writing) too much, but this book is so good, and no I can't, can you not.
I love Prince Kai and Cinder's relationship. They seem so comfortable around each other, and I hate what Dr. Erland did to her, and just as they were going to kiss, and I just want them to be together and be happy but my heart physically ached as I read the ending.
Words cannot describe how much I HATE Adri, just ugh  no, I think I consider her worse then Queen Levana (and that is saying something) and Adri is just scum, and I wanted to feel sorry for her but she has a horrible personality.
I like Dr Erland and Cinder's strange friendship, because I can't consider them not friends - especially after what you find out.
Through out everything happening, their is the plot line o the normal Cinderella, girl with a wicked stepmother and two horrible sisters (well one wasn't in Cinder but shh), girl can't go to the ball, girl finds a way (in Cinder there isn't one - maybe, but the person kinda died and ugh read the book) to go to the ball dances with prince, runs away shoe comes off, prince finds her and they get married.
I've mislead you all hahahaha, it cuts of at the shoe bit, and the most cringe thing happened and you need context, but I won't give you all of it just the need to know - Cinder hasn't got a foot and needs a fake one. Okay back to what happened, Cinder was running, AND HER FOOT COMES OF WHAT. That wasn't even one of the bad awkward bits, usually while reading a book I can just read it through, but with Cinder, nope, I had to put it down, and just breath in and out - IT'S ONLY A BOOK, but with all the drama happening in it as well - no.
I love at the ending though, another character is introduced, and while reading I was just like *looks character up and down* 'I know you', because funny story, I brought the last book first ha what an idiot.
I really recommend this book, even if you don't think you'll like it - you never know until you try.
I have so many emotions for this book, it so worth reading it.

Book Review: Say Her Name by James Dawon

Hey guys! So I've been really busy with school, but I really wanted to upload, so today I'm going to do a review on my favourite author,  James Dawson. Throughout the review I mention some parts of the book, but there is not enough to spoil anything.

Hot Key Books - Publisher
Drip...drip...drip...In five days, she will come...Roberta 'Bobbie' Rowe is not the kind of person who believes in ghosts. A Halloween dare at her ridiculously spooky boarding school is no big deal, especially when her best friend Naya and cute local boy Caine agree to join in too. They are ordered to summon the legendary ghost of Bloody Mary: say her name five times in front of a candlelit mirror, and she shall appear...But, surprise surprise, nothing happens. Or does it? Next morning, Bobbie finds a message on her bathroom mirror - five days - but what does it mean? And who left it there? Things get increasingly weird and more terrifying for Bobbie and Naya, until it becomes all too clear that Bloody Mary was indeed called from the afterlife that night, and she is definitely not a friendly ghost. Bobbie, Naya and Caine are now in a race against time before their five days are up and Mary comes for them, as she has come for countless others before...A truly spine-chilling yet witty horror from shortlisted 'Queen of Teen' author James Dawson.

Say Her Name is about a girl called Bobbie, and  it follows her life after she summoned the ghost Bloody Mary. When I first read the book, I was so so scared (my mirror is still covered). I think James (author) had a really good plot the story, where he could have made it really cliché, he didn't. You see Mary's side of view to what happened, and dare I say, feel sympathy to the ghost.
I love how the characters were described, and I loved Caine, and Bobbie's relationship. The only disappointment I had with the book was the fact that Bobbie's best friend wasn't really explored as  much as she could've been, her character could have more explanation.
James writing is really witty, and I don't usually read horror/thriller books, but I've read his books from the start - so I'm going to carry on.

It wasn't just Bobbie who summoned Mary, it was also her best  friend Naya, and love interest Caine. I would say friend, but they didn't know each other before the Hallowe'en night that they summoned the ghost.

There was so many parts I loved, and I wished I could live in a boarding school, to have that kind of life.
I loved reading the part where she realised she may never see her mother again, and I felt just as upset as Bobbie was.
At the end, I loved what James did, but I also sat in shock for five minutes. There is an opening for a sequel, but I don't know whether my sanity will be able to handle it.

I will definitely read this book again, and will probably be just as scared.

Book Review: 7 Days by Eve Ainsworth

Hey everyone! Today I am going to be reviewing 7 Days by Eve Ainsworth, I hope you enjoy. There are not any spoilers that would ruin the story for anyone.

School should be a safe place for Jess, but at the moment it's everything she dreads. Jess's life is difficult enough without Kez picking on her. Kez's life isn't any sweeter. She has plenty of problems too but she finds comfort in knowing she is better off than Jess - or so she thinks...
(Blurb from Amazon)

When I first started reading this, I didn't know what to expect or what to make out of it. I've always believed that bullies are scum - and they are. I know everyone has problems, but I couldn't understand why people who understand what it is like to have horrible people in their life would reflect it upon others.
7 Days shows alternating points of view between Jess and Kez, starting on Monday until Sunday. I felt so bad for Jess, for her problematic home life, and on top of that Kez and her friend Marnie harassing Jess because of her weight.
You learn that Kez has a bad home life, and I felt bad for her, but unlike how I connected with Jess, I never really felt that bad for Kez, until it was the end.
I understand having Kez's point of view was supposed to make us feel sympathy towards the bully or at least understand, but all I could do was understand, until it got to the end, where I  could relate to her.
After reading the book I understood that some bullies didn't mean to bully people - like wrong place wrong time. All of these things with Kez's family was happening and Jess happened to be there - it could have happened to anyone.
With that said, I still don't think there is a reason to bully someone, or that you should be forgiven for it. Because although the bully/person may be going through something, it doesn't give them the right to make other people's life worse. That isn't the way it works.
I really loved the friendship Jess had with her old childhood friend Lyn, who was Kez's boyfriend. Because in the 7 days that changed everything, he and Jess became friends again, and it seemed to be  a reminder to Jess, that not everyone leaves in the end.

People will perceive this book differently, I think from the start, even just reading the blurb I was rooting for Jess, but by the end of the book I did begin to like Kez. It isn't a book I would read often, just because I think it was meant for a younger audience. The book was really quick to read, I flew through before I even realized I was over half way through.

I really enjoyed the book, and it is a book I recommend you read after something that is heavy.
The cover is really cool, I thought it was a really creative thing to do.

Hello! Welcome to my blog!

So, my name is Alexia, and I love to read so I thought, why not start a blog where I can write down all my views on the books I read.

I'd love to say I read all type of books, but in reality, I don't. I mainly read young adult book, fantasy or romance. But if a book catches my eye - even if it isn't in those categories, I will read it.

I'm really busy with school at the moment, but I will blog when I can.

The blog page probably looks really plain and bad, which I apologize for that, but I'm still trying to get used to using Blogger.
